  • Poster assignment:  a comparison of Columbus, DeVaca and LaSalle:  Students cut a poster paper.  They fold it into threes so that they create three columns, then they label each column "Columbus," "DeVaca," and "LaSalle."  In each of the columns. the describe:  In purple ink, the attitude that each explorer had toward the natives.  In blue ink, what each approach was with the natives (how did he conduct himself?), and in brown, what affect each explorer had on the natives (how was each perceived by the natives?)

  • Writing Assignment (Due Monday: Historically, what happened to the natives?  Is what Chingachgook said at the end of Last of the Mohicans true?  Is this fair?  Unfair?  What would have happened if the Europeans hadn’t settled or expanded?  What is justice in this situation?  What would have been just?  Note:  You cannot do justice to this assignment in less than 2 pages.
